I've been wanting to practice making one-piece lidded vessels. This is where the pot is thrown as a closed form. Then at leather hard a lid is cut off from the top and a gallery is the trimmed. I've always found collaring in challenging. So I threw seven little pots out of Keane white speckled clay. Each ball was around 500gr. After these were thrown and then trimmed, I thought about how I should embellish these. I've been feeling playful, and wanted these pieces to be whimsical. Because they looked like little hills, I thought I should make a house to go on top of these... maybe even a tree and some shrubs. ![[house on the hill 01.jpeg]]![[house on the hill 02.jpeg]] Then I started thinking how I should glaze them. I decided I'd paint the houses and the shrubs using Mayco's Stroke and Coat. The sample kit I got would be perfect as these houses won't take much. I mixed up a small batch of Old Forge's Borealis glaze and I know that on white clay it turns bright green. It also crazes, but that shouldn't be a problem as these are not meant to be for food. That would make it look like a verdant green hill. The bottom part I wanted to glaze to look like water, so the hills look like floating islands. My seafoam glaze would be perfect for that. After the bisque firing, I tested the painting and the glazing on two and they came out exactly like I wanted them to be. So I continued with the other five. I had run out of seafoam, so I mixed up another batch. I don't know what went wrong though as it turned out beige instead of blue! Still a nice glaze and I don't have that colour yet. ![[house on the hill 03.jpeg]] ![[Houses on the hill 1.jpg]] I even added these little houses on candle stick holders. ![[houses and candle sticks.jpeg]]
